What is this place?

There is a long (love) story about how lotchat came about. It went through many iterations, but after a lot of bullshit the sysadmin decided to host something simple, secure, and private that will work forever. That's why it became a chat server. Anyone can use it from a phone, laptop, tablet, smart bidet, whatever the fuck...except a web browser, which we might implement at some point.

The server uses XMPP, a secure, stable and private messaging technology that has existed since 1999. Using lot.chat is not as easy as facebook, but it is doable for anyone that has an attention span. You download an XMPP client, sign up, and then you can chat.

How do I use lot.chat?

1. Download a chat app for your platform. Choose Apple, Android, or Windows
2. Open your app and create a new account for lot.chat
3. Choose a username and strong password. The format is the same as an email address! For example: jerrygarcia@lot.chat
4. Start chatting!
